Sandy interviews Arianne Fisher from WeddingMix to get the opinion of a veteran wedding pro on the whole meme shaming of the bride and groom who asked their breastfeeding wedding guest to nurse in a designated area. Arianne says that this wedding guest used her boobs as a weapon to hurt the bride and groom. She explains “overboobing” as an inappropriate way to breastfeed in public. She says there’s no way to gracefully breastfeed discretely in a dress you’d wear to a wedding. It’s an interesting take from somebody who has experience as a breastfeeding mother, multiple times over, and who also has unique insight as a wedding vendor.

It’s so easy to fall in love with a big, poufy silk ball gown for your wedding, but if you’re having a destination wedding, less is more. Before you start trying on wedding dresses, consider what kind of fabrics are most conducive to the weather. Consider organza instead of silk so that you don’t melt. Remember, if you feel miserably hot, you probably look miserable, too.

Make your mate your top priority in order to build a working foundation for a new marriage, says Sandy’s guest Elizabeth Carroll, star of WEtv’s “Marriage Boot Camp” reality TV series. Oftentimes, conflict arises in blended families because the parents have their children on a pedestal, and don’t adjust to put their new spouse first. Elizabeth says you have to put your spouse first or the marriage won’t survive.

Sandy gets a lot of calls from angry brides who want to fire their wedding planners. She listens carefully and then tells them what not to do if they don’t want to screw up their weddings in the process.
Needing to fire your wedding planner is a worst case scenario in wedding planning. Sandy strongly advises brides and grooms to think carefully before doing so, and make sure they have all the details of their wedding plans and each individual vendor before they cut the cord. No matter how bad things have been, try not to burn any bridges until after the wedding day, even if you’ve fired the planner. Remember, she’s hired the vendors she works with regularly. You don’t need a burned bridge with the planner to result in having your entire wedding explode.

Sandy’s mom didn’t get to plan her wedding, but she certainly stepped up to the plate to help finish all the little details when the wedding planner dropped the ball back in 2004 Left to right, Robin Corridon, Sandy, and Sandy’s godmother the Rev. Nan Chandle.
The mothers of today’s brides and grooms got screwed out of wedding planning. Their parents planned their weddings, and they always thought they would have the bulk of the say in their own daughter’s wedding.
But times have changed and brides and grooms prefer to do most of the planning together, without parents interference. How you feel about that and how you deal with it can have a real impact on your enjoyment of the wedding.

Some of Sandy Malone’s very best friends are women whose weddings she’s planned in the past eight years. But they were “clients” and not “friends” until after she’d finished doing their wedding planning. A wedding planner’s job is to keep the trains running on time on your wedding day not to fill the emotional support role of your best friend.
Sandy Malone, the owner of SandyMaloneWeddings.com and WeddingsinVieques.com, has planned more than 500 weddings and is an internationally-syndicated columnist for The Huffington Post, BRIDES, Monsters and Critics, and a host of other publications.
